Why do I take part in paranormal investigations

Nathaniel, January 4th, 2010 ,

Why do you investigate paranormal?” – this question is probably one of the most popular questions I’m being asked when people learn about my ‘hobby’. Well, the answer is pretty complex so I think it’s a great opportunity to write another small personal article for ASoM. There are four reasons: someone has to do this, I love it, it’s both a practice and way to gain practical experience…

Someone has to

Someone has to investigate the unknown to help people having problems with paranormal activity. I’m such person – I’m not afraid of dealing with negative energies, spirits or negs, but more than that, I’m not afraid of dealing with logical explanations such as malfunctions of electricity or building’s age. It’s simple – someone has to do the job, and since I don’t have any objections, then I’m the one doing the job :).

I love it

It’s my passion, a hobby, I just enjoy going to so-called haunted buildings and investigate the supernatural activities going on inside, looking for logical explanations, and if I can’t find such, then looking for proofs of real paranormal activity, real spirits, real ghost phenomena and such. It’s quite fascinating, exploring the unknown, talking with people, learning the history of the building, studying the knowledge about possible supernatural explanations; then just exploring the building with a flashlight etc, it’s an adrenaline rush!

It’s a practice

For me, each and every visit in haunted location is an opportunity to learn something new and test my psychic sensitivity. I can sense the single room or the whole building, look for spirits, trying to communicate; try psychometry, or just enjoy the weirdness of energies within such haunted place. Not mentioning the fact of simple scanning people I’m talking with to find out if they’re speaking the truth, whole truth and only truth :).

It’s gaining experience

By visiting haunted places and exploring the paranormal activities “on site”, I’m gaining experience, I’m learning new things first-hand, not just from books. One day I will use the experience to write some books and turn some of my plans into reality (plans that require this kind of experience). Oh, and do I have to mention the simple fact that by gaining experience I’m learning more, and with more knowledge and experience I can help people more effectively :). Yep…

And those are the main four personal reasons. Now, to all our readers investigating the paranormal too, why do you investigate the paranormal?

I've always been fascinated by ghosts…I had a lot of experiences as a child especially that led me to believe I was living in a haunted house. I started doing research on the property I lived on, and came to find out that the home I was living in was built on top of a potter's field, where people who had no money were carelessly thrown into pauper's common graves.

I thought this was proof…but when I started reading even more, I came to see that to truly investigate a place for hauntings requires hours of intensive study and documentation…not just a city record of a forgotten cemetery. So I have been looking into paranormal study as a hobby…and being a single mother, I don't have the time I would like to have for investigating. However, I am taking the time to learn a lot more, and to double check everything….not every ghost story has a ghost….maybe not even my own.

  2. I absolutely agree with the "Someone has to do it." I feel the exact same way, especially about parapsychology research. I have a heavy paranormal/psi/occult background, lots of psychic practice, and a heavy science and psychology background. And I feel like the world is only going to get more 'secular' and materialistic. The field needs help now more than ever
