It is my belief as Shamanist that all people have at least two spirit guides – one that passed the level of physical body, and second, the animal guide – totem, that is yet to reincarnate in human shell. I’ve been asked this question few times in last 2 months: how to find your animal spirit guide? My advice is simple – ask the spirit to reveal itself.

I love to tell people the story how I discovered my spirit guide – the beaver. I went for a walk in order to mediate in my little private corner of the wood. Then I just asked the spirit guide to show himself to (umm, I believe this particular beaver is ‘he’ :)), and he did this – with my eyes closed, with the eyes of imagination I saw a beaver coming out from behind a tree, and then I just knew – my animal spirit guide is a beaver. When I returned home, I checked out all available sources I could put my hands on to learn about beaver totem as much as I could.

How To Discover Your Spirit Animal Guide

In my opinion, there just isn’t any magical how-to guide when it comes to discovering your spirit guide. All you have to do is to sit down, close your eyes and clear your mind (for example by focusing on your breath, or counting down from 50 to 0), and then saying in your mind “I ask the spirit guide to reveal itself to me” – then, just pay attention to creatures you you’ll see, and when you will see your true spirit guide, you will know it’s the spirit guide you seek.

Once you find your guide, don’t hesitate to ask him (or her) for advice and for help – they’re here to help us, by this they’re helping themselves. Listen to your guide as his/her advices are worth of listening, and be thankful for all the help you receive from them, simple saying “thanks” is a lot. Just don’t push it like I usually do, when I say “thank the spirits” it’s a little humour I used to put into my shamanic approach to life ;).
