In search for inner peace

Nathaniel, September 9th, 2009 , ,

Look at the civilization today – technology meant to make our life easier is everywhere, eliminating our need to think – you don’t have to read, learn, remember, machines will do this for you. The overwhelming technological advancement is making our minds weak, making us more susceptible to stress and fear, but the most dangerous thing we see these days, is the way people are turning their backs on spirituality.

People are tired of religion, set-in-stone rules, 10 commandements, priests harassing kids, holy people pointing our mistakes while not looking on their own life. Most of the religion today can’t keep up with the development of the civilization, so the people are dropping their beliefs, or just submerging them deeply in their life – like all these people who consider themselves as Catholics, but they’re not practising, they just think they believe because society expect them to do so. It’s funny, everyone is expecting others to believe in God, but most of the people do not believe in God on their own.

So people are turning their backs on spirituality. But shouldn’t they start looking for the real religion or spiritual experiences? It’s easy to ignore something, but deciding to seek the truth on your own is a great achievement! Isn’t it why we’re here? To use our minds and look for answers? Don’t turn your back on something, investigate it!

Few weeks ago I never thought I will ever again believe in God, but I searched for answers, I investigated the matter, and I’ve experienced something that changed my point of view once again – and I feel great, because I didn’t pick up the religion from the catalogue, I experienced the spirituality myself, I follow the path of Tao, but this isn’t religion, it’s a life philosophy. My personal spirituality, my personal beliefs – this is something different, this is my own personal religion.

But why do we need spirituality, anyway? I can’t answer this question in the name of entire humanity, I know why I need it – to know my life has a meaning, that I have a purpose here, and that there’s something greater out there. And this is helping me achieve some level of serenity, this inner peace of mind and soul. It’s a retreat from the stressful fast-moving world today, a retreat from overwhelming technology and chaos. And this is probably what most people look for, the serenity. The way to look on the world from a different perspective, the way to smile when everything else is sad, the way to see the light in dark tunel.

Spirituality is an inspiration for creativity, a source of strength for those who need it, an engine keeping our life running smoothly, a way to give yourself to others, a way to be happy and make others happy.

Don’t be afraid of spirituality – if you have questions, ask them. If you’re looking for God, keep looking. Don’t pick up the first religion from the shelf, find your own way, find your own Tao, understand that no matter what your spirituality will be, the most important thing is to regard your neighbour’s gain as your own gain, and your neighbour’s loss as your own loss – it’s the core of all religions and philosophies, to love the other person as yourself. And keep in mind, that being spiritual today isn’t stupid, but it is, in reality, a great power, a power to achieve the impossible.
